Globalstar Static IP/VPN service allocates static IP addresses to Globalstar modems, and carries this traffic over a secure link to the customer’s end office.
Remote Polling over Packet Data
By sending IP packets to the IP address of the modem, a call is initiated and connected in less than 10 seconds, allowing you to remotely poll your devices quickly and reliably.
Secure link
A virtual private network (VPN) provides enhanced security for Globalstar data customers, eliminating exposure to the Internet.
Applications
Static IP/VPN service is available for all types of Globalstar Data Solutions, but is best suited for the following applications:
- Asset Tracking by IP address
- Secure Links: no internet exposure
- Remote Services: simplifies SCADA applications
- Mobile Terminated Calling: simplifies automated calls between computers.
Coverage
Static IP/VPN service operates throughout the US, Canada and the Caribbean. A modem configured with a Static IP address will not operate in other Globalstar coverage areas.
Hardware
For remote polling, the customer must provide a remote access server (RAS) on the modemend. Possible RAS devices include; appropriate software on a Windows laptop or a dedicated RAS box, or any device that will accept an incoming PPP call, and complete the connection.
IP Routing
Communication from Static IP modems routes to the specific IP’s of the customer network over the VPN. Calls can not be routed to end hosts on the Internet via the Static IP/VPN
service. Static IP modems will not be able to browse the web.
Affordable Time-based PPP sessions
Globalstar Static IP/VPN PPP sessions are time-based, with affordable burst data plans specifically designed for SCADA and Telemetry applications.
IP Address Subnets
IP addresses are assigned to customers in contiguous blocks for proper device management. Globalstar assigns addresses for the future customer needs at the time of initial setup, but reserves the right to reassign unused addresses.
